Yellowtieguy challenges the spread of misinformation with pop-rock single "Information" [Premiere]

Yellowtieguy's newest release "Information" is an energetic pop-rock track that delves into the issues brought on by social media.

Daniel Hill, one of four members of Yellowtieguy, said social media has given people too much confidence to say what they think without considering the repercussions.

"I think we have a shield that goes up that makes us feel like we can say anything and do anything on the internet," he said.

When writing "Information", the singer-guitarist said the group was inspired by people's online reactions to societal issues in the United States.

"We had just watched things like the separation of families at the Mexican border, protests not being taken seriously for the Dakota Access Pipeline. By watching the public reaction, we recognized it became uncool to protest status quo," Hill said.

The Dakota Access Pipeline is an oil pipeline built in 2014 from North Dakota to Illinois that some protested would harm the environment and invade lands owned by First Nations, according to an article published by CTV News.

Although U.S. District Judge James Boasberg ordered the pipeline to be shut down on July 6, the article indicated that the court reversed its order to shut the pipeline down on August 5.

Hill said he hopes the song resonates with people and sparks a conversation

"We're just a contribution to a bigger voice, where more and more people are feeling like there's something just not right with things that have been established. Disagreement is our American right and a human global right," he said.

Hill said the name "Yellowtieguy" came from one of his first childhood performances at a church sponsored youth rally in which he wore a yellow tie. Children started referring to him as "the guy with the yellow tie" and it became his brand.

After meeting his first three band members, Mary Celeste, Jason McKinney, and Darren Guzzone, the four agreed on "Yellowtieguy" being their name. Since then, the group members have changed to Jamie Rasmussen, Kyle Crosby, and Eric Sanford.

The group has released two albums as well as a collection of singles and has performed at hundreds of venues in the past decade.

Although Hill is a full-time musician, he said the other members have full-time jobs in addition to being part-time musicians.

"They're in it for the experience and the chance to buy used gear and to play with a new camera or a new microphone, or a chance to be onstage," he said. "We are just a group of guys that love what we do and appreciate the chance to make music and have people that are listening that want to share their experiences with us."

Hill said the group plans on releasing an EP in November and he personally plans on releasing singles before then.

Although he said "Information" is the most energetic song, each song carries a message.

"The band has always had kind of a higher mission. We want to sing about something and have people be moved," he said.
